KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 11 (Bernama) -- Malaysia's Industrial Production Index (IPI) grew by 6.2 per cent in November 2016 as compared to the same month last year. In a statement today, the Statistics Department said the expansion was supported by higher growth in all three indices, namely manufacturing (6.5 per cent), mining (4.7 per cent) and electricity (9.7 per cent). The manufacturing sector output grew significantly by 6.5 per cent in November after registering an increase of 4.2 per cent in October 2016. The major sub-sectors which recorded growth in November were electrical and electronics products (8.9 per cent), petroleum, chemical, rubber and plastic products (6.1 per cent), and food, beverages and tobacco (10.4 per cent). The department said the mining sector output expanded steadily by 4.7 per cent in November after registering and increase of 3.5 per cent in October. "The expansion in November was supported by an increase in the natural gas index by 13.2 per cent," it said. However, the crude oil index declined by 1.9 per cent during the period.
