US renders financial support to flood victims in Thai South
BANGKOK, January 12 (TNA) - The United States has provided a financial support of 100,000 US dollars (about 3.5 million baht) to flood victims in the Thai South.
US Ambassador in Bangkok H.E. Glin T. Davies was quoted as saying on the official Facebook account of the US Embassy to Thailand that on behalf of the American people, he would like to express deep condolences and sympathy to the Thai people for the loss of lives and assets, caused by heavy floods in the country's southern region.
The US top envoy said Washington has learned that out-of-season heavy downpours over the past 2-3 weeks have ravaged more than 12 provinces in the Thai south, with over one million people affected and over 20 of them killed.
The US ambassador stated that the damages caused by the heavy downpours and floods have widely troubled local people, prompting the United States to join forces with the Thai people to provide the financial assistance of 100,000 US dollars to the SAVE THE CHILDREN Foundation, through the US Agency for International Development (USAID), to help relieve the hardships of the affected people in the southern Thai region.
