PRESIDENT ILHAM ALIYEV ATTENDS SESSION “ENERGY OUTLOOK-2009” AT DAVOS WORLD ECONOMIC FORUM

Davos, January 29 (AzerTAc). President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has today participated in a session “Energy Outlook–2009” at the 39th World Economic Forum, which is held in the Swiss resort town of Davos.
The Annual Meeting is set to not only focus on managing the current crisis, but also on shaping the entire post-crisis agenda from economic reform to climate change.

Speakers pointed out financial crisis will at best end in late 2010 and early 2011
with world economies suffering much in 2009.
Addressing the session on Energy Outlook-2009, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev
told of the country`s economic development and potential, ongoing reforms and work
done in the energy field.
The Head of State noted projects of international importance had been implemented
thanks to the right policy pursued by Azerbaijan and joint efforts of partners.
Azerbaijan`s experience in this field can be an example for other countries.
President Ilham Aliyev expressed his opinion on the Nabucco project, saying
Azerbaijan contributed to the Europe`s energy security.
Then, the Head of State answered to the questions of moderator and panelists.
Later the same day, President Ilham Aliyev also attended a special session on “Oil
and gas geopolitics – a map in transition” held at the Morosani Schweizerhof hotel.
The meeting attended by President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev,
representatives of the European Union and world`s energy giants ENI, Total,
Exxon/Mobil, StatoilHydro dealt with regulation of oil production, energy giants`
increasing interests on Russia and Mid-East, future changes in the energy field.
Speakers praised Azerbaijan`s stance on the energy cooperation and stressed
Azerbaijan`s role and importance in diversification of energy supplies and Europe`s
energy security.
President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev expressed his opinion on the issues discussed,
highlighted the importance of international energy cooperation and told of
Azerbaijan`s accomplishments in the energy field and country`s increasing role in
the world.
Given Azerbaijan`s growing economy and its active integration into the global
economy, emerging markets, participation in such an important event will be fruitful
for the country playing a role of a regional leader.
More than 2,500 participants from almost 100 countries have flocked to the event
this year, including a record 41 heads of state or government, representatives of
major companies, economists, experts, heads of international organizations, media.
The World Economic Forum Annual Meeting 2009 is one of the most important events in
the Forum`s history.
