Bahrain calls to solve plight of Rohingya Muslims

Manama, Jan. 19 (BNA): The Foreign Affairs Minister’s Assistant Abdullah bin Faisal bin Jabur Al Doseri took part in the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The meeting was held under the patronage of the Malaysian Prime Minister and chairmanship of the Malaysian Minister of Foreign Affairs.
In his speech delivered during the meeting, Al Doseri expressed Bahrain's concern over the situation of the Rohingya Muslim minority in Myanmar, which is denied its fundamental internationally-recognized rights, as well as suffering from inhumane treatment in detention camps, impeding of the access of humanitarian assistances to their areas, forced displacement and expulsion to neighboring countries to live there as refugees.
He stated that the Islamic nation is facing many challenges that have severe repercussions of suffering, pains, miseries, displacement and refuge across the globe. He pointed out that the Rohingya's issue is only one of these challenges.
He added that the continuation of Rohingya crisis without final practical settlement on the ground for years is unacceptable and represents a challenge to the international community at large and the OIC in particular.
He urged the OIC to device mechanisms that ensure the protection and care to the Rohingya Muslim minority in Myanmar and step up efforts in coordination and cooperation with the international community to end this human tragedy as well as urge and exert pressure on the Myanmar government to end all kinds of violence and violations committed against the civilians of the Rohingya Muslim minority to enable them to live in peace and safety as the rest of Myanmar citizens.
He also urged the Myanmar government to take immediate measures to stop the persisting deterioration of human rights situation in Rakhine State for years, and to amend its policies that violate all international norms.
He further urged the government to take appropriate measures to prevent discrimination and violence based on religion or ethnic origin, to recognize the legitimate Rohingya's rights, and to ensure safety, peace, and rights to all segments of the society in order to bring stability and start creating a common coexistence ground among different and diverse religions, and sects in Myanmar.
