Qatar's Economy and Commerce Minister Meets International Officials in Davos
Davos, January 19 (QNA) - HE Qatar's Minister Economy and Commerce Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim bin Mohammed Al-Thani met separately on Thursday with U.K. Secretary for International Trade, Liam Fox; Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry, Nirmala Sitharaman; and Georgian Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development, Giorgi Gakharia on the sidelines of the third day of the World Economic Forum in Davos.
The meetings reviewed bilateral relations in the economic, commercial and investment fields and means of boosting and developing them, in addition to exchanging views on issues on the agenda of the forum.
Trade volume between the Qatar and the United Kingdom amounted to around QR 19.4 billion, where the U.K. is considered the sixth trade partner. In addition, there are 79 British companies operating in Qatar with a total capital of QR 8.1 billion and 672 Qatari-British companies operating in Qatar with a joint capital.
Qatar and the U.K. are linked through a number of agreements and memoranda of understanding, notably a memorandum of understanding to encourage and protect mutual investments, and strategic cooperation agreements on clean energy technologies and agreement on the avoidance of double taxation.
A historic relation between Qatar and India lies where trade volume between both countries amounted to QR 37.9 billion in 2015.
India is considered the third trade partner on 9.5 percent of the total volume of trade exchange.
A number of agreements and memoranda of understanding have been signed recently between both countries covering economy, investment and infrastructure, in addition to cooperation agreement in the field of customs affairs, and a memorandum of understanding for cooperation in the field of tourism.
