Laos might build new airport, Mekong River Bridge in Khong district

(KPL) The government has planned to build new airport and Mekong River bridge in Khong district, Champassack province in order to enable the domestic economic growth amid the increased number of tourists have rushed to province slightly said local officials.
Khong district is one of most popular places for domestic and foreign visitors who seek relax during holy day or festival events, but some of basic infrastructure need to improve them as quick as possible.
Mr Soubin Chanthaphim, chief of Khong district told last week the Lao News Agency that the government would build new airport and Mekong River Bridge in Khong district of Champassack province, aimed to provide more facilities for people travelling to these places.
Both of airport and Mekong River Bridge Construction Projects expected that there would be built between Khonephapheng Mekong River waterfall and Khong district because this area is central place belong to tourism town as it is able to link Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand.
He said that in the near future, foreign visitors would know more Champassack province, because it has many attractive tourism places such as Khonephapheng Mekong River waterfall, 4,000 islands, and the send world heritage of Champassack Wat Phou and fresh water endorphin-preserved area.
However he does not know clearly how much budget should the government put in to both of projects due to these projects might use much money, but now he knew only that Mekong
River Bridge Construction Project stretching to Khong district it has been agreed already.
Mrs Somleth Phosalath, President of Khonephapheng Resort and Golf club and also Deputy Head of Tourism office of Champassack province reported that the number of tourists travelling for Champassack province increased around 220,000 people in 2008 and earned more than 1 billion kip. But it expects that the number of tourists will increase 29% for this year however the financial crisis hampered.
She said that last year, two essential events such as the financial crisis and Thailand’s politic affected the tourism business’s Champassack province because some tourists cancelled their plan.
Now Champassack province has more than 600 hotels, guesthouses and resorts for preparing for tourists.
