Kazakhstan’s priority work in the UN Security Council focuses on the formation of a peace zone in Central Asia. Kazakhstan became the first country in the region to be elected to the UN Security Council. The country intends to work actively to promote the interests of all Central Asian countries to achieve stability and security, effective responses to regional challenges and threats, strengthening cooperation. The Kazakh President’s political address to the UN Security Council focuses on a harmonious combination of the interests of all countries in Central Asia, which can be a basis for formation and a model of regional zone for peace, security, cooperation and development.

MAHMADAMIN MAHMADAMINOV, PERMANENT REPRESENTATIVE OF TAJIKISTAN TO UN:

Before starting the work in the Security Council, Kazakhstan’s mission met with the ambassadors of the Central Asian countries. We discussed the issues that concern our region and which can be raised at the Security Council level. And we see that Kazakhstan will adequately work with all the Security Council members.

Kazakhstan in the years of independence has managed to achieve leading positions in Central Asia. This allows the country to represent the interests of the region in the international arena. The former coordinator of the European External Action Service for Central Asia Pierre Borgoltz noted that Kazakhstan has defined clearly the next development priorities.

PIERRE BORGOLTS, FORMER COORDINATOR, EUROPEAN EXTERNAL ACTION SERVICE FOR CENTRAL ASIA:

And that is the message which President Nazarbayev has given to his own people, but also to the region. Kazakhstan has made substantial achievements, but has put to itself to make further progress in the field of rule of law, in the field of public services and transparency of its government to make more solid basis for its economy diversifying and providing more opportunities for its population.
