More media development initiatives on way

Manama, Jan. 26 (BNA): Information Affairs Minister Ali bin Mohammed Al Romaihi said "the upcoming phase will unfold many initiatives to further develop the country's official media organisations".
"Media development will be built through the efforts of proficient Bahrainis who have proven their merit in the previous period," he stressed.
Speaking on the side-lines of Parliament's latest session, the minister pointed out that the new programmes roster will be revised after the elapse of four months since its launch.
The positive feedback through press columns and social media have been thoroughly perused, according to Minister Al Romaihi. He also said two months have elapsed since the new roster programmes have been launched and we are looking forward to assessing them after four months.
"An initial assessment was gleaned from newspapers and social media writings which he termed as positive so far till now. However, we cannot please all tastes despite the diversification of our variety programmes whereas television undertakes its (self-)monitoring and enlightening role to serve all of the society's segments," he added.
The programmes of course do undergo advanced stages featuring a high ceiling in terms of the extent of bold expression and discussion compared with that in the past, commensurate with the times of media openness and transparency experienced in leading media institutions, he also said.
And regarding the anticipated new Law for the Press, he explained that a clause on the "Electronic Media" has been added because the (online) e-media nowadays constitutes one of significant pillars of the media which should not be overlooked. He affirmed that at the same time the law does not seek to restrict freedoms but will boost them through regulating the rights and duties of media practitioners and journalists.
