Dual national holders required to rectify situation soon
Manama, Jan. 30 (BNA): Acting Director of Nationality and Passport Affairs of the Nationality, Passport and Residence Affairs (NPRA), Lieutenant-Col. Bader Rashid Al Binfalah stated today that based on Ministerial Order 89 of 2016 regarding the implementation of articles 8, 9 and 10 of the Nationality Law, Bahrainis who have nationalities other than their native Bahraini nationality are required to rectify their situation.
These individuals should contact the passport office at the Security Service Complex in Muharraq to crectify their status before the deadline on February 4 in order to avoid legal action.
The law covers Bahrainis who obtained foreign citizenship before the endorsement of this law, hence they are required to disclosed their second nationality. Those who obtained nationalities upon birth in countries that grant nationalities based on birth should correct their situation even if they don’t have passports as they are considered citizens in those states.
He said that the department has introduced new services to re-obtain native nationality, receive permission to keep a foreign nationality, request revocation of the foreign nationality, or request to give up Bahraini nationality.
Forms to initiate the process can be obtained via the website www.npra.bh.bh of the passport office at the Security Services Complex. Required documents must also be provided.
For those who reside outside the country, he said, they can either come to Bahrain or assign legal representatives through a request that can be submitted to His Excellency Interior Minister office. He warned of legal actions and a fine against those who fail to correct their situation.
For more details kindly visit the NPRA website or visit the passport office in Muharraq.
