Princess Sabeeka to patronise Arab Women Committee meetings

Manama, Jan. 31 (BNA): Under the auspices of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of HM the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), the kingdom will host the meetings of the 36th session of the Arab Women Committee at the Arab League, in the presence of the Arab League Secretary-General, on February 6-7. The kingdom will also chair the preparatory meeting of the 61st session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW61) at the regional level, in the presence of the Arab Women Committee members. The 36th session of the Arab Women Committee will discuss issues of women empowerment and advancement at the Arab level, including the sustainable development agenda for Arab women, 2030. Women and security, peace and combating terrorism, consolidation of economic empowerment, Arab women’s political participation, combating violence against women, enhancement of regional and international cooperation in the field of women empowerment, as well as developing an Arab Charter for Gender Equality and Economic Empowerment for Women and the "Economic and Social Empowerment of Needy and Low-income Women" Project will also feature in the meeting’s agenda. Other topics, such as mechanisms to implement the action plan for fighting illiteracy among women in the Arab region, will also be discussed.
