Arab women's empowerment, status to be discussed in Bahrain

Manama, Feb. 4 (BNA): Bahrain will on Monday host the meetings of the 36th session of the Arab Women Committee at the Arab League under the auspices of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of HM the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW). The two-day meeting, to be attended by the Arab League Secretary-General, will discuss issues of women empowerment and advancement at the Arab level, including the sustainable development agenda for Arab women, 2030. The 36th session of the Arab Women Committee Women and security, peace and combating terrorism, consolidation of economic empowerment, Arab women’s political participation and combating violence against women will be discussed at the meeting. The agenda also includes the topics of enhancing regional and international cooperation in the field of women empowerment, developing an Arab Charter for Gender Equality and Economic Empowerment for Women and the "Economic and Social Empowerment of Needy and Low-income Women" Project. Mechanisms to implement the action plan for fighting illiteracy among women in the Arab region will also be discussed. Bahrain will also chair the preparatory meeting of the 61st session of the UN Commission on the Status of Women (CSW61) at the regional level, in the presence of the Arab Women Committee members. Ministers and senior officials in charge of women’s affairs and representatives from national agencies and regional and international organisations will attend the meetings.
