Kazakhstan has started work as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. Kazakhstan will be promoting the key priorities during the two years. One of them is a fight against terrorism, where the first steps have already been taken. President Nazarbayev has proposed establishing a single global network to combat terrorism and extremism under the auspices of the UN. The member states have supported this idea. For its implementation, the Kazakh President offered to develop and adopt a comprehensive UN agreement on fighting against terrorism. Latvian Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkevics noted the relevance and importance of this initiative.
EDGARS RINKEVICS, LATVIAN FOREIGN MINISTER:
We believe that your country will work constructively in resolving the big issues facing the globe, and one of those issues is the fight against terrorism. I think that your initiative to develop a common approach to counter terrorism is useful. We support the launch of the discussions.
