Manama, Feb. 14 (BNA): Deputy Premier, Deputy Chairman of the Civil Service Council and Chairman of the Ministerial Committee for Urbanisation and Infrastructure, HH Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, has lauded the decision of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Wife of HM the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW), to allocate the Bahraini Women's Day 2017 to honouring the Bahraini women in the engineering field. This came as HRH Princess Sabeeka received HH Shaikh bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, ministers and officials concerned with engineering, SCW members, women engineering leaders and competencies, academic institutions and the relevant NGOs, at the SCW's premises today. During the meeting, HRH Princess Sabeeka announced the theme of the Bahraini Women's Day 2017 –Bahraini women in the engineering field. Commenting on the announcement, the deputy premier asserted that thanks to the illumited support of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, the directives of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa and backing of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier, Bahrain is placed among countries that pay great attention to women and ensure equal opportunities for them to enjoy their rights to education, work and access to high posts without discrimination, taking into account needs, competence and capabilities. Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla affirmed that HRH Princess Sabeeka's kind gesture of devoting this year's Bahraini Women's Day to women in the engineering field embodies her appreciation of and interest of Bahraini women, in line with the sound directives of the leadership in this regard. He stressed that Bahraini women have contributed to building the bases of the urban progress of modern Bahrain since the 1970s, along with men. Bahraini women constitute more than half of the civil service sector workers, many of whom have left clear imprints and hold leadership posts in the engineering field, which is a source of pride, he said. He added that the Civil Service Council has been following up on the work of the equal opportunities units to ensure they develop plans to implement equal opportunities and integrate women's needs fully.
