Ringgit Opens Easier Versus Greenback

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 20 (Bernama) -- The ringgit extended last week's downtrend to open easier against the US dollar, in early trade, dampened by weak interest for the currency, dealers said. At 9 am, the local unit was traded at 4.4550/4600 against the greenback from 4.4510/4550 last Friday. The ringgit is expected to move between 4.44-4.45 against the US dollar this week, with sentiment influenced by external economic conditions, including announcements by US President Donald Trump. Against other major currencies, the ringgit was traded mostly lower. It fell against the Singapore dollar to 3.1426/1468 from 3.1416/1451, weakened versus the yen to 3.9456/9518 from 3.9417/9463, contracted against the British pound to 5.5322/5411 from 5.5273/5336 but appreciated vis-a-vis the euro to 4.7294/7352 from 4.7372/7428 on Friday. -- BERNAMA
