Vice Premier lays ground stone for Year 450 Road

(KPL) Standing Deputy Prime Minister Somsavat Lengsavad on 1 February laid a foundation stone kicking off the construction of Year 450 Road.
Vientiane Mayor Sombat Yialiher and other high-ranking officials of Vientiane were also present at the ceremony.
The road stretches from Dongdok to the first Lao-Thai Friendship Bridge, in Dongphosy village, Hadxaifong district. The road has six lanes, a 33m width and 20.3 km length. “This road is among 21 major development projects Vientiane administration has approved to celebrate the 450th anniversary of Vientiane proclamation into the national capital in 2010.
The road is designed to avoid trucks from running through the heart of the capital when they are en route from the first Lao Thai Friendship Mekong Bridge to the 13 North Road.
Mr. Bounchanh said the total construction cost was expected to reach more than US$37 million. It is expected to complete in 2010. The road will have a 25-cm layer of gravel topped with 7cm of concrete asphalt.
