Proposed Lao Stock Exchange to list five local companies in 2010

(KPL) At least five local companies are interested in getting listed with the proposed Lao Stock Exchange after the Lao government announced that it would be operational in 2010, said officials of the Bank of Lao PDR.
The Lao government said it would establish this exchange in order to stimulate domestic economic growth and to increase investment opportunities at a time when the financial crisis is raging.
Mr Dethphouvang Moularat, President of Security Market Establishment Committee of the Bank of the Lao PDR told KPL News yesterday that the opening of this stock market by the scheduled date is on track and it is getting support from Korean business people.
He said that the five interested companies are: Lao State Electric Enterprise Company, Foreign Commercial Bank of Laos, Lao Airlines, telecommunication companies and Lao Airlines.
These five companies were selected from a list of 30 domestic companies and they were selected on the basis of their corporate viability.
Not a single foreign company was considered for listing as many of them were suffering from the effects of the ongoing financial crisis.
Mr Dethphouvang pointed out that the Republic of Korea side confirmed that it will help Laos develop the human resources on IT and stock exchange management team.He added that Thailand and Vietnam would also offer support through the Human Resources Development Project.
