The Veronicas crack US Top 20
The Veronicas have cracked the US Top 20 with their hit single Untouched, which
reached number 17 in the Billboard Top 100 this week.
They are the first Australian artist/group to make the top 20 since 2002, when Kylie
Minogue hit number seven on the charts with Can't Get You Out Of My Head.
Untouched has sold more than 750,000 copies in America, with 80,000 sold in the past
week alone.
"Feeling the energy of Untouched doing so well in America is a great feeling," said
Lisa Origliasso, one half of The Veronicas.
"It's a different style of music to break through on the American charts, and people
are excited. Especially us!"
Their album, Hook Me Up, is number one on the Billboard HeatSeekers chart, which
highlight sales by new and developing musical recording artists.
"Very few Australian acts make a dent on the US or UK charts - far too few in my
opinion," said Warner Music Australia chief executive Ed St John.
"Hundreds of Aussies have waged an assault on the American music business and only a
tiny handful have succeeded, ever.
"With this hit single The Veronicas are poised to join the ranks of a very small and
very exclusive club."
The Veronicas start their Australian tour on February 13 in Newcastle.
