US attack against Syria violation of UN Charter: President Rouhani

Tehran, April 9, IRNA – President Hassan Rouhani on Sunday condemned the US missile attack on Syria calling it a violation of the United Nations' Charter. “The aggressive attack on the independent state of Syria by the United States amounted to violation of the international regulations and the UN Charter,” President Rouhani said during a telephone conversation with his Syrian counterpart Bashar al-Assad. “The Iranian people are still standing by the Syrian nation,” President Rouhani told the Syrian president. Meanwhile, President Assad said that the US missile attack on the Syrian Shayrat airfield has made Damascus more determined to root out terrorists. President Assad also appreciated supports given to Syria by the Islamic Republic of Iran. The US military fired 59 Tomahawk missiles from the USS Porter and USS Ross warships in the Mediterranean Sea at the al-Shayrat Airfield near the northwestern city of Homs early on Friday morning. Pentagon claimed the airfield was used to store chemical weapons. The Syrian government has rejected the US claims concerning the stockpiling of chemical weapons or using such weapons against its own people. 1378/IRNA
