Shares continue to drop on economic worries
Hanoi (VNA) - The VN-Index lost another 0.89 percent, hitting a new rock bottom of
286.11 points on Feb. 4, on continued worries about the worsening global economic
crisis.
The HCM Stock Exchange on Feb. 4 saw a moderate trading volume of 5.27 million
shares, worth 116.61 billion VND (6.9 million USD). Sacombank (STB) was the most
active share on the day with 528,030 traded, followed by Saigon Securities Inc (SSI)
with 325,550.
Purchases concentrated mostly on penny stocks, helping them buck the common trend to
add some points. Gainers included Lilama 10 (L10), Sieu Thanh Co (ST8) and Lu Gia
Mechanical Electronics (LGC).
Blue chips, meanwhile, continued mostly to decline on news of fourth-quarter losses.
At the Hanoi Securities Trading Centre, the HASTC-Index also dropped to 93.82
points, a loss of 0.72 percent from the previous day's close.
Market volume on the northern bourse also fell to 3.6 million shares, for a total
value of 76.87 billion VND (4.5 million USD).-Enditem
