Malaysia Ambassador To Thailand Reiterates Country's Support For Palestinian Cause

BANGKOK, May 16 (Bernama) -- Malaysian ambassador to Thailand, Nazirah Hussain, has reiterated the country's solidarity and support to Palestinian's effort in finding a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue. She made the remarks during a speech to commemorate the Palestinian "Nakba", organised by the Palestine Solidarity Campaign (PSC) Thailand at the Foreign Correspondents' Club of Thailand (FCCT) here, recently. In her speech, the ambassador highlighted Israel's defiance and impunity in the eyes of the international community, as it continued its illegal settlement activities, violation of human rights and ignoring countless resolutions passed by the United Nations (UN) and UN Security Council (UNSC). She said that Malaysia had co-sponsored the UNSC Resolution 2334, which was adopted in December 2016, which underlined the commitment to peace and two-state solution between Palestine and Israel. The envoy also commended Palestinians' strength and determination in their struggle for a Palestinian State. The event was held to observe the Nakba Day (Day of Catastrophe), which is generally commemorated on May 15 every year, in remembering the displacement of Palestinians that preceded and followed the Israeli Declaration of Independence in 1948. The Nakba Day was inaugurated by the late Palestinian President Yasser Arafat in 1998. -- BERNAMA
