Technological science as strategic priority praised

Manama, May 17 (BNA): His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa has delegated Labour and Social Development Minister Jameel bin Mohammed Ali Humaidan to open the 15th International Conference on Sustainable Development. Ahlia University, in cooperation with the World Association for Sustainable Development (WASD) in the United Kingdom, stages the event scheduled to be held under the patronage of HRH Prime Minister on 16-18 May under the theme “Digital revolution". Experts and researchers from 20 countries participate in the event to discuss the digital revolution of information systems, policies of smart cities, as well as government and private sector performance improvement. In a statement, the Labour Minister said HRH Premier's patronage reflects his interest in attaining the optimum investment in digital technology and knowledge economy to attract investments to diversify sources of income for achieving objectives of sustainable development in the Kingdom of Bahrain. The minister added that electing Bahrain by the WASD to host the conference for the second time mirrors its reputation earned as an international event organizer, in addition to the government's interest in sustainable development at various levels. He pointed out the vital role of digital technology in leading global economies, and keenness of Bahrain's government on adopting many initiatives to establish an integrated technological system and electronic infrastructure in various sectors, as well as preparing national cadres to manage technical and information systems to keep pace with the rapid development witnessed by various fields. He concluded by wishing the conference success in reaching key recommendations to take on challenges posed by the rapid acceleration of digital technology. Number of readings : 360
