Six-Month-Old Baby Among 16 Illegal Foreigners Detained in Tawau, Sabah

TAWAU (Sabah), May 20 (Bernama) -- A six-month-old baby was among 16 Indonesians detained by the Marine Operations Force (MOF) in Pantai Batu 6, Jalan Apas here in the Malaysia's state of Sabah Thursday night. Tawau MOF commanding officer DSP Mohd Nazri Ibrahim said the illegal foreigners, aged between six months and 50, were spotted in two cars in a suspicious manner about 8.20pm. “Checks by the MOF (patrol team) revealed that two local drivers of the vehicles, aged 48 and 52, had been carrying 16 passengers comprising 10 men and six women including the baby,” he said in a statement here Friday. Mohd Nazri said further inspection on the passengers revealed that they did not possess any valid identification document. “Both the drivers have been detained together while their vehicles have also been impounded on suspicion of involvement in migrant smuggling activity,” he said, adding that the case had been handed over to the Tawau district police headquarters for next course of action. -- BERNAMA
