Iranian And Malaysian Reciters Emerged Winners At 59th International Quran Recital And Memorisation

KUALA LUMPUR, May 22 (Bernama) -- Iranian Hamed Alizadeh Marghzari Gholamhassan and Malaysian Normalina Alias emerged victorious when they were announced the winners in the recitation category at the 59th International Quran Reciters’ Assembly. As winners of qari (male reciter) and qariah (female reciter) they both received gold bars worth US$16,249 (RM70,000), US$9,285 (RM40,000) cash and a trophy each. (US$1 = RM4.30) Meanwhile, Awangku Muhd Adibul Amin Pengiran Marjuki and Dayang Siti Noor Dzuhairah Awang Damit, both of Brunei, emerged as the runner-up for male and female reciters respectively and took home US$6,964 (RM30,000) cash. Malaysian Wan Fakhrul Razi Wan Mohamad and A'tiiqah Suhaimi of Singapore won the third placing for male and female reciters and took home US$4,642 (RM20,000) each. For the memorisation category (male), Diallo Mouhamed Al Muoudjtaba of Senegal emerged as the winner, followed by Muhammad Syazani Jemy (Malaysia) in second place and Ammar Abdulla A. Sakini (Qatar) in third placing. In the women category, Aishatu Musa Gale of Nigeria emerged as the winner, followed by Zainab M.S. Hijawi (Palestine) in second place and Ngom Ndeye Diarra (Senegal) in third placing. As the winners for the memorisation category they received gold bars worth RM50,000, cash of RM20,000 and a trophy each, while the runner-up and third place winners received a cash prize of RM15,000 and RM10,000 each respectively. A total of 91 participants from 46 countries participated in the assembly with 22 countries participating in the recitation category, while 24 countries taking part in the memorisation category during the six-day assembly, from May 15 until today, held at the Putra World Trade Centre, here. The prizes were presented by the Malaysian King Sultan Muhammad V. The Penang Head of State Abdul Rahman Abbas and his wife Majimor Shariff, Melaka Head of State Mohd Khalil Yaakob, Deputy Prime Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Dr Ashraf Wajdi Dusuki, also attended the event. -- BERNAMA
