Lao Telecom embarks on a US$30 million expansion project

(KPL) The Lao Telecom is embarking on a US$30 million expansion of its domestic network system in order to cover 64 per cent of the Lao market.
It is planning to have a net income of 1,047 billion kip, to increase its total number of customers to 1.1 million people and to recruit 28,000 mobile phone users per month.
Last year it made a profit of 322 million kip and for 2009 it is trying to increase its profit by a further 28 per cent to 412.19 billion kip.
In order to provide good services to its customers, it is planning to set up nine more customer service centres in nine provinces: Bolikhamsay, Vientiane, Khammouane, Sayaboury, Houaphan, Oudomsay, Xieng Khouang, Luang Namtha and Bokeo.
This plan of Lao Telecom was disclosed by Director General of Lao Telecom, Mr Thansamai Kommasith during its annual meeting held on 6 February, at its headquarters in Vientiane Capital.
This company made less money in 2008, just 84 per cent of 2007’s profit.
Presently, the Lao Telecom service has a nationwide coverage but the company is making efforts to improve its services.
