O'hAiplin accepts four-match AFL ban
(AAP) - Carlton key-position player Setanta O'hAilpin has accepted a four-match AFL suspension for punching and kicking team-mate Cameron Cloke.
But his indefinite club suspension remains in place, with O'hAilpin likely to learn
by Friday whether he will be sacked.
The Irishman is not involved in club activities during the suspension and must train
with their VFL affiliate, the Northern Bullants.
He is also undergoing an anger management course.
O'hAilpin punched Cloke to the ground and then kicked him in an extraordinary
incident during Friday's intra-club match at Princes Park.
The AFL match review panel looked at graphic video of the incident before handing
down separate bans for striking and kicking.
The level-four striking ban and the level-two kicking offence came to a total of
four games.
Carlton announced that O'hAilpin had accepted the bans less than two hours after the
AFL had announced them.
Meanwhile, the pre-season has also started badly for new Collingwood captain Nick
Maxwell.
The panel has handed down a three-match ban for rough conduct after an incident that
left West Coast's Patrick McGinnity with a broken jaw.
The clash happened during Saturday night's NAB Cup opener in Perth.
Maxwell can accept a three-match ban with an early plea and risks a four-match
suspension if he goes to the tribunal and fails.
Maxwell can start serving his suspension while Collingwood remains in the NAB Cup.
But O'hAilpin's ban must start in round one of the regular season.
