Nine Thai and Malaysian tourists arrested in Myanmar

TAK, April 27 (TNA) - Police in Myawaddy town of Myanmar arrested five Thai tourists and four Malaysian people as they allegedly crossed the border to Myanmar without a travel document. It was reported that the people travelled on private vehicles to the Thai-Myanmar border in Mae Sot district of Tak province. Then they took a boat to cross the Moei River to the Myawaddy bank without passing through an official immigration channel. They hired local drivers to tour Myawaddy before being arrested. The people are liable to imprisonment of at least two years for illegal immigration. Thai authorities were contacting Myanmar officials to help the people. (TNA)
