Malaysian Climber James Lee Due Home Tuesday

KUALA LUMPUR, May 30 (Bernama) -- Malaysia’s oldest mountain climber, James Lee Chong Meng who was hospitalised in Nepal after suffering from severe chest pains on May 20, while attempting to conquer Mount Everest, is expected to arrive home on Tuesday. Lions Mount Everest Expedition (MEE) Public Relations officer Sherine Leong said Lee, 69, is expected to arrive at 8pm Tuesday on a Malaysia Airlines flight. She told Bernama that Lee who is reported to be healthy was expected to depart Kathmandu at 1.05pm local time. On May 20, Lee was set to climb to Camp 3 and head on to the peak of the world’s highest mountain from Camp 4 but instead had to be transported by helicopter to a hospital in Kathmandu. He was reported to have suffered chest pains and breathing difficulties while at Camp 2. During his attempt to conquer Mount Everest in May last year, Lee had to cancel his climb at the last minute at Camp 3, after reaching a height of 7,200 meter, due to bad weather. Mount Everest is the highest peak in the work, at 8,848 metres. The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) is the media partner for the mission, known as the Lion Mount Everest Expedition (MEE) 2017, organised by Lions Club Port Dickson Pantai. Lee’s two important messages during the mission were – to inspire society at all ages to benefit from good health, continue being active and to create awareness on the importance of protecting the environment. -- BERNAMA
