Nicol Fails to Secure Spot in PSA World Series Semifinals

KUALA LUMPUR, June 8 (Bernama) - Malaysian squash queen Nicol David’s hopes of advancing to the semi-finals of the Professional Squash Association (PSA) World Series Finals in Dubai, suffered a setback after suffering her second consecutive defeat in the group stage on Wednesday. With the defeat, Nicol, ranked sixth in the world, has failed in her pursuit for her first title in the world series this season. Nicol who was drawn in Group B was defeated by the tournament’s top seed Nour El Sherbini of Egypt 6-11, 9-11 in the second group match early this morning, according to www.worldseriesfinals.com. On Tuesday, Nicol was defeated by her old rival, Laura Massaro of England, 10-12, 10-12 in the group’s opening match. Nicol, winner of the 33rd National Squash Championships, will meet the world’s seventh-ranked player from England, Sarah-Jane Perry on Saturday, to complete her group matches. - BERNAMA
