Thailand Denies Rumours Of Memo Warning Of Possible Attacks On Tourist Destinations

By MOHD HAIKAL MOHD ISA BANGKOK, June 13 (Bernama) -- The government has denied rumours on the existence of a security memo warning of possible attacks on three major tourist destinations in Thailand namely Phuket, Phang Nga and Krabi. Deputy Prime Minister Gen Prawit Wongsuwan who is responsible for internal affairs, said that there was no such security memo issued of possible attacks on the three popular tourist destinations in southern Thailand. "No there was no (security) memo," he told the media when met today at the Government House . Interior Minister Gen Anupong Paojinda was also present. He was responding to media reports and rumours circulating among social media users about the alleged existence of a security memo warning of attacks on government and public buildings, tourist spots, shopping malls and hotels located in the tourist destinations. On Sunday, Phuket governor Norraphat Plodthong told the local media that he ordered heightened security measures at key checkpoints on the island province apart from installing more security cameras at risky areas around the island. A Krabi local government officers told the local media that security has also been tightened at the tourist destination. -- BERNAMA
