Japan's Crown Prince visits Vietnamese ancient town of Hoi An+

HOI AN, Vietnam, Feb. 11 Kyodo -
Japanese Crown Prince Naruhito on Wednesday visited Hoi An, Vietnam's ancient
capital on the south central coast, where many Japanese had visited on a
trading ship during the Edo period (1603-1868) and a Japantown used to be
located.
In the town, which was declared a World Heritage site in 1999, the crown prince
viewed a bridge which is said to have been constructed by Japanese.
Earlier in the day, the crown prince also visited the Thang Long Industrial
Park on the outskirts of Hanoi where about 80 Japanese companies, including
Canon Inc. and Panasonic Corp., are operating.
Crown Prince Naruhito is on his first trip to the country from Monday through
Sunday.
