Traffic plan for construction of orange line subway
BANGKOK, July 4 (TNA) – Traffic police have prepared measures to handle traffic congestion when the construction of the orange line electric rail route will begin later this year.
Deputy Metropolitan Police commissioner Pol Maj Gen Jirapat Poomjitr, representatives of the Mass Rapid Transit Authority (MRTA) and the construction company, CH Karnchang Plc told the press about the construction plan of a section of the orange line electric train route from the Thailand Cultural Centre to Min Buri.
The underground construction is set to start in November this year and the building of the stations on the ground will begin in January next year.
On July 10, the pile driving work is set to start on traffic islands near Soi Ramkhamhaeng 145 and Soi Ramkhamhaeng 157. Vehicles will be banned from parking on road shoulder.
Initially, the exit of the inbound Ramkhamhaeng overpass near Ramkhamhaeng University will be closed in November. Traffic lanes must be expanded to handle traffic congestion.
The construction company will discuss with the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration to shut down the Ramkhamhaeng elevated road for three years.
Pol Gen Jirapat said he was worried about traffic congestion on Ramkhamhaeng Road, which will also have an impact on connecting roads such as Rama IX Road, Rama IV, Silom and Sathorn.
He said traffic police will convene a meeting to adjust traffic management plans to help alleviate any adverse effect. (TNA)
