Malaysia Target 25 Gold Medals At ASG In Singapore

PUTRAJAYA (Malaysia), July 15 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian contingent competing in the 9th ASEAN Schools Games in Singapore from July 13-21, have targetted 25 gold medals. The Education Ministry in a statement Friday said gold medal hopes would hinge on sports like athletics, badminton and gymnastics. "The Malaysian Schools Sports Council (MSSM) is sending 197 athletes and 63 officials to the ASG. The Malaysian contingent will be led by Education Ministry’s Deputy Director of Sports Division, Zainal Abas who is also the National athletics head coach," said the statement. The statement said the Malaysian contingent would participate in 11 sports, namely athletics, badminton, swimming, volleyball, basketball, gymrama, gymnastics, table tennis, tenpin bowling, tennis and sepak takraw. Apart from Malaysia, other ASEAN countries competing in the ASG are Indonesia, Thailand, Philippines, Myanmar, Laos, Brunei, Vietnam, Cambodia and Singapore. Among venues to be used for the ASG are Bishan Stadium (track and field), Singapore Sports School (swimming), Toa Payoh Sports Hall (table tennis) and Tanglin Academy (tennis). -- BERNAMA
