AirAsia's Direct Flights From Melaka To Hanoi, Pekanbaru, Jakarta To Start Soon

MELAKA (Malaysia), July 18 (Bernama) -- Low-cost carrier, AirAsia, is expected to commence direct flights from the Melaka International Airport in Batu Berendam to Hanoi, Pekanbaru and Jakarta by this October or November. Melaka Chief Minister Idris Haron said AirAsia through its chief executive officer and executive director Aireen Omar had stated its commitment to start operating direct flights to these three destinations within three months from now. "This is a good development and through these three new routes, Melaka will receive more tourist arrivals,” he said in a statement Monday. Idris said prior to this development, the idea had been put forward to AirAsia to make Melaka its air hub to Indonesia and Vietnam as Melaka had been receiving many tourists from these two countries. He said although the Melaka airport’s runway was undergoing expansion and upgrading, he believed the project work which was expected to be completed in 2019 would not affect the current and new flights. -- BERNAMA
