10,000 Muslims Join World Zikir Perdana 2017

PUTRAJAYA, July 31 (Bernama) – About 10,000 Muslims thronged Masjid Putra here Sunday to enliven the World Zikir Perdana 2017 programme. Themed ‘Islam is Peace’, the six-hour programme, which began at 4pm, was filled with the recital of the Al-Quran, ‘zikir’ (zikr; the remembrance of Allah), ‘berselawat’ (praise Prophet Muhammad), religious talks and mass prayers. Present were Ministers in the Prime Minister's Department Jamil Khir Baharom and Shahidan Kassim. Also present at the programme organised by Pertubuhan Tarekat Muktabar Malaysia (Pertama) were 150 Muslim scholars from 39 countries including Malaysia. Food truck sales by the ‘asnaf’ (deserving group) were also held at Dataran Masjid Putra. The programme, a brainchild of Deputy Prime Minister Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, was first organised last year to create a movement to ensure the rise of Islamic civilisation.(photoBERNAMA) -- BERNAMA
