Malaysia Open WSF World Doubles Campaign With Two Wins

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 2 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian squad team opened their campaign in the WSF World Doubles held in Manchester, England, with two wins. Malaysia registered their first win in Group B through mixed doubles pair Muhammad Syafiq Kamal/Rachel Arnold when they beat Delierre/Cornett from Canada 11-9, 2-11, 11-7 in 39 minutes before defeating India’s Saurav Ghosal/Dipika Pallikal from India. The duo will next meet Peter Creed/Tesni Evan from Wales, Wednesday. Rachel later partnered Datuk Nicol David in a Group C women’s doubles match to beat Rachael Grinham/Donna Urquhart from Australia 11-10, 9-11, 11-8 in 38 minutes. Rachel/Nicol will next face another Australian pair, Sarah Cardwell/Christine Nunn. However, Malaysian men’s doubles pair could not match the performance of their women counterparts when Mohd Nafiizwan Adnan/Ivan Yuen lost their Group A match against Dylan Bennett/Piedro Schweertman from Holland 7-11, 11-1, 8-11. The duo again lost to Alan Clyne/Greg Lobban from Scotland 3-11, 8-11. Meanwhile, in Group C, Muhammad Syafiq/Eain Ng Yow suffered a similar fate when they lost to England’s Tom Richards/Daryl Selby 7-11, 4-11 and again to Andres Herrera/Juan Camilo Vargas from Colombia 11-4, 6-11, 7-11. -- BERNAMA
