Dubai, Feb 15, 2009 (WAM) - The Minister of education, HE Dr. Hanif Hassan, has commended generous offer made by HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to sponsor the Global Education Forum (GEF) and the Gulf Educational Supplies and Solutions (GESS).
The event will take place in the UAE for the second time in a row from March 10-12, 2009.
Dr. Hanif said that the initiatives and visions of Sheikh Mohammed in regard to the educational domain accentuate the importance of investing in human capital to push forward sustainability of the development process, strengthen the knowledge-based economy throughout the region and ensure that every single individual in society receives the highest level of education.
He thanked Sheikh Mohammed for his relentless support and sponsorship of the forthcoming forum which is considered as one of the biggest international educational events.
Hanif noted that the GEF will be attended by ministers of education from the GCC and other Arab countries. International educationalists, experts and well-reputable companies specialized in educational technology solutions will also take part at the forum. Among others, over two hundred international organisations working in the modern technological supplies and solutions domain will attend the event. 28 research papers will be presented at the GEF and 35 renowned speakers will share their experience with the participants at the forum.
He said that the GEF and the parallel GESS have gained great success in their first round where 100 educational organisations and companies from 15 countries participated last year, including royal stands from Germany and the UK. The forum then attracted 4000 visitors working in the local and regional educational sector from 35 countries including delegations from Bahrain, Qatar, KSA, Yemen and Oman.
The Minister noted that the strategic plan of the federal government emphasizes the importance of achieving a tangible progress in education in the UAE. "This goes along with the efforts made to achieve successful social and economic development which will secure prosperity for our citizens. Progress in education should coincide with the evident progress already made on the economic and social fields."
