Malaysian Parliament Speaker Attends Iran President's Inauguration Ceremony

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 7 (Bernama) -- Malaysian Parliament (Dewan Rakyat) Speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia is making an official visit to Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of the re-elected Iran’s President Dr Hassan Rouhani. The 68-year-old moderate scholar won the presidential election on May 19 with more than 57 per cent votes. According to Wisma Putra’s (Foreign Ministry) statement, Pandikar Amin is being accompanied by officials from the Malaysian Parliament and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The visit is also expected to further strengthen the existing bilateral relations, particularly in trade and investment, between the two countries, the statement said. Malaysia and Iran have worked together on issues of mutual interest in the international platforms including the United Nations, Organisation of Islamic Cooperation, Non-Aligned Movement and Developing Eight for Economic Cooperation. -- BERNAMA
