Malaysia To Host World Congress Of Surgery In 2021

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 (Bernama) -- Malaysia will host the 49th World Congress of Surgery (WCS) in 2021, says Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. The announcement to host the WCS was made by the International Society of Surgery (ISS) at the 47th WCS General Assembly, which is currently being held in Basel, Switzerland. Dr Noor Hisham in a statement Thursday said the WCS 2021 was expected to generate positive economic impact and maximise the country’s potential as an international hub for surgical training. He said it would also enhance Malaysia’s reputation in attracting the best surgical talents and expert and cement its position as a leading destination for health tourism. "A robust partnership between the public and private healthcare sectors, in addition to extensive personal networking and professional relationships built over the years, were among the key factors that helped us in our successful bid to host WCS 2021. Dr Noor Hisham said the five-day bi-annual congress was expected to draw over 3,000 participants from more than 100 countries. -- BERNAMA
