Strong Earthquake Hits Fiji Island

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 19 (Bernama) -- A strong earthquake measuring 6.4 on the Richter scale hit Fiji Island at 10.01 am on Saturday. The Meteorology Department in a statement said the epicentre of the quake was 180km south east of Laucala, Fiji, and 7210 km south east of Semporna, east Malaysian state of Sabah. However, the quake did not pose a tsunami threat. -- BERNAMA
