Afghanistan Embassy Celebrates Independence Anniversary

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 23 (Bernama) -- A total of 300 guests attended the 98th anniversary of the Independence Day of Afghanistan at a hotel here Tuesday night. Among those present was Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Razali Ibrahim, diplomats, Afghan community and students (picture). Afghanistan Ambassador to Malaysia, Atiquallah Atifmal in his brief speech expressed gratitude and appreciation to those present to celebrate his country’s independence anniversary. "I would like to pay tribute to each and every one of our brave men and women in the national security and defence forces fighting to protect our country from national, regional and global threats on a daily basis," he said. The event was the first official Afghanistan Independence Day celebration in Malaysia in decades. Afghanistan is currently in the process of rapid rebuilding and development after many years of civil war and conflict. Afghanistan gained independence on Aug 19, 1919 from Britain.
