Reezal Merican to Lead Malaysian Delegation to FEALAC in BUSAN

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 30 (Bernama) -- Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Reezal Merican Naina Merican will lead the Malaysian delegation to the 8th Forum for East Asia-Latin America Cooperation (FEALAC) in Busan, South Korea, tomorrow. Wisma Putra (Foreign Ministry), in a statement here today, said Malaysia’s participation in the forum reflects its continuous commitment and support to FEALAC, including in strengthening the relationship among FEALAC member countries. “The 8th edition of FEALAC will focus on efforts to strengthen regional cooperation between East Asia and Latin America, which cover various sectors of economy, development and security, with the theme ‘One Vision, New Action’,” the statement said. The forum is expected to adopt two documents, namely the Busan Declaration, which outlines the efforts of member countries on economic development, poverty eradication, environmental issues, cross-border crimes and human rights protection; and the FEALAC New Action Plan, which contains initiatives to strengthen existing collaboration. According to Wisma Putra, Reezal Merican is scheduled to deliver Malaysia’s statement at the forum. Established in 1999, FEALAC is the platform for Malaysia to strengthen its ties with the 36 member countries from the East Asia and Latin America regions through dialogues and cooperations. Among the member countries from the East Asia are Australia, Brunei, China, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, New Zealand, South Korea and Singapore, while the member countries in Latin America include Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Cuba, Mexico, Peru, Uruguay and Venezuela. The statement also said that after attending the FEALAC, Reezal Merican is also scheduled to celebrate Malaysia’s National Day and Aidiladha celebrations with the Malaysian community in Seoul. -- BERNAMA
