Team From China Champion In ASEAN Makerthon 2017

CYBERJAYA, Sept 11 (Bernama) -- Goot Box, a prototype smart box to transport fresh fruits, made Hi-Team from China emerge as champion and they received US$1,000 in the ASEAN Makerthon 2017 which ended Sunday. Hi-Team spokesperson, Chen Yu Hong, 22, when met after the prize-giving ceremony at the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) headquarters, here, said the Goot Box could sense the temperature in the box during a change of location and send the data to the server. "When the temperature (outside) goes high, the box keeps cool," said the girl who is doing her post-graduate studies in systems engineering at Harbin Institute of Technology, China. Team UI-TES from Myanmar with a prototype smart home was the first runner-up, receiving US$800. Team AgentC from Malaysia with their prototype smart farming system was the second runner-up and took home US$500. Each team comprised three members. MCMC’s Digital Lifestyle and Society director, John Tay who is also the ASEAN Makerthon 2017 organising committee representative, said there were plans to make the competition an annual event. "In future, the organising committee plans to make the ASEAN Makerthon bigger with more participating countries," he said. Tay said the prototypes created by the participants were good and now it was up to the respective countries to commercialise their participants' prototypes. There were 70 participants from 12 countries comprising ASEAN member countries, China and South Korea in the ASEAN Makerthon 2017 held at the MCMC headquarters where they had to produce a prototype within 28 hours from Saturday 10.30am until 2.30pm on Sunday. -- BERNAMA
