Customs officers at Wattay Airport seizes fake money and drugs

(KPL) The customs authorities at Wattay International Airport seized fake banknotes, 395,000 Euros and US$2,300 at the airport in the first quarter of 2008-2009 fiscal year and they detained two foreign air passengers whom they suspected were involved in this illicit activity.
Mr Souksavanh Bouapha, Head of Customs in Wattay Airport said that smugglers were active in 2008 but the authorities had been vigilant and they seized 8.8 kg of amphetamine, 68 gm of heroin and 5.4 kg of opium from air passengers and they were mainly foreigners.
He added that the police had sent investigation reports to the Narcotic Suppression Bureau and this body will take the cases to court.
The authorities have also detected 10 cases of passengers who tried to take more than US$5,000 or its equivalent out of the country, Mr Souksavanh said.
