Kahramaa Wins Award on Implementation of Geographic Information System
Doha, October 16 (QNA) - Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (Kahramaa) has been awarded the Special Achievement in GIS (SAG) Award as the best institution in implementing geographic information system (GIS).
The award was given at the 2017 ESRI International User Conference, which was held in San Diego, California, and was organized by the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI).
Kahramaa President Eng. Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari honored the corporation's GIS team for winning the award, Kahramaa said Sunday in a press release.
Kahramaa was recognized for its excellence in GIS applications through the development of technologies and solutions, the implementation of best practices, the use of the latest GIS technology and spatial data in asset management, ensuring data accuracy, and system integration, the press release said.
The statement added that Kahramaa was able to use GIS applications in data exchange and integration between GIS and SCADA to monitor the electricity and water networks, allowing for prior analysis and planning of the network as well as the introduction of missing data in GIS by connecting with the different state agencies.
More than 30,000 organizations and entities from around the world participated in the award out of 100,000 users of the system worldwide from institutions, ministries, entities and private companies.
The award is given to the most distinguished entities that make a tangible achievement in GIS application. Only 150 winners from different countries, companies, institutions, ministries and agencies, including Kahramaa, were chosen as the best GIS users.
Kahramaa has previously received numerous international awards as the best GIS user. This award is also a new achievement of the corporation in the field of innovation and creativity, which is a key component of the development of corporate performance, reflecting Kahramaa's keenness to achieve its vision of being a global standard in performance and technical innovation in the electricity and water sectors by 2030.
The ESRI International User Conference is the world's most important event in the field of GIS and the ideal platform for networking, exchange of expertise and knowledge, and learning about the latest technology in the field. More than 16,000 experts and specialists in the industry from around the world participated in the event. (QNA)
