WEF will discuss national competitiveness with Thai economists

NONTHABURI, Oct 19 (TNA) -- Representatives of the World Economic Forum (WEF) will meet Thai economic authorities to discuss the enhancement of national competitiveness as Thailand was ranked 32nd for national competitiveness among 137 countries. Pimchanok Vonkorporn, director-general of the Commerce Ministry's Trade Policy and Strategy Office, said WEF representatives would meet Thai economic policymakers on Nov 20. The seminar would be the first meeting between the two parties in many years and an important step to promote their cooperation. It would address upcoming changes to WEF’s criteria on national competitiveness that would focus more on innovation, she said. Thailand and WEF would organize a large-scaled seminar on industrial revolution early next year, she added. According to Ms Pimchanok, WEF plays important roles in global economic and political policies. This year it ranked Thailand 32nd up from 34th last year for the country’s competitiveness. (TNA)
