BKH Free Industrial Zone Can Be ASEAN Hub

ALOR SETAR (Kedah), Oct 28 (Bernama) -- The development of a free industrial zone in Bukit Kayu Hitam (BKH), in northern state of Kedah, can turn the area into an ASEAN logistic hub, in line with its position as the most dynamic border town in the country. State Industry and Investment, Domestic Trade, Consumer Affairs and Co-operatives and Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand Growth Triangle Committee (IMT-GT) chairman, Dr Ku Abd Rahman Ku Ismail said this would materialise when the areas started to offer numerous infrastructural facilities, services industries and other industries. “Complementing the duty free area will be several mega projects in the area such as the Kedah Science and Technology Park, tyre factory and the development of a new Immigration, Customs and Security Complex. “This is very good news for the people of Kedah because it shows that the project is fully backed by the federal government when it was also mentioned in the tabling of the 2018 Budget,” he said when contacted by Bernama here Friday. Prime Minister Najib Razak, when tabling the 2018 Budget Friday, announced the development of a Special Border Economic Zone (SBEZ) di BKH, encompassing a Free Industrial Zone which would become a new draw to investors. -- BERNAMA
