Qatar Chambers Discusses Enhancing Investment with Turkish Trade Delegation

Doha, November 08 (QNA) - Qatar Chamber held Wednesday a meeting with a Turkish trade delegation chaired by Ministry of Economy's Free Zones, Foreign Investment and Services' General Director Ugur Ozturk.
The two sides discussed potential joint investment opportunities in the electricity fields, basic materials, and solar energy.
Member of Qatar Chamber Mohammed Mahdi Al Ahbabi said that trade volume between the two countries reached $1.5 billion in 2016, which reflected the ongoing growth in ties between the two sides. He added that the size of trade volume allows for further cooperation in the trade and investment fields.
He added that Turkish companies are implementing projects worth $11.6 billion, pointing out that there were 186 Turkish-Qatari companies working in Qatar in addition to 19 Turkish companies. Their activities are mainly in infra-structure, construction, trade and electricity.
Al Ahbabi said that he expected bilateral cooperation to compound in coming years especially as Turkish exports to Qatar increase. He also expressed his appreciation to the support of Turkey to Qatar during the siege, by supplying the Qatari market with its needs of food materials.
He noted that the Qatari society is now ready to establish more partnerships with their Turkish counterparts in the coming period. There were a number of cooperation agreements signed in that regard to help facilitate the exchange of goods.
For his part, Ozturk said that the Qatari market is considered one of the most important to the Turkish business community. He added that investment opportunities in Qatar were attractive to Turkish capital. He said that his visit looks to explore further the investment opportunities available and look to sign deals between companies from both sides. (QNA)
