KAHRAMAA Financial Performance Improves in Third Quarter of 2017

Doha, November 15 (QNA) - Qatar General Electricity and Water Corporation (KAHRAMAA) held its quarterly performance review meeting to review the performance of its departments during the third quarter of 2017.
According to a press release issued Wednesday, the financial performance of the Corporation witnessed a significant improvement, especially with respect to collection and revenue increase.
The meeting, which aims to monitor, review and evaluate the performance and progress of work in accordance with the approved plans, reviewed the performance reports of the different departments and their development, the progress of the projects they carry out, the difficulties encountered, as well as the ways and the executive procedures taken to solve them, ensuring that work is conducted in accordance with approved plans and time schedules.
The indicators showed an increase in institutional performance in the third quarter of 2017 in general, especially the main departments, where KAHRAMAA has succeeded in maintaining the sustainability of providing the country's electricity and water needs around the clock.
On the technical performance of electricity transmission and distribution networks, technical performance indicators for the networks recorded high levels. The technical performance indicator for the number of minutes of electricity loss in electrical transmission networks showed a marked improvement in the third quarter with a record of 0.10 minutes. The SAIFI performance indicator maintained the number of power outages at a rate of 0.09 times, as well as the performance indicator (SAIDI) of the average power cut which recorded 7.65 minutes in the third quarter.
In terms of drinking water quality, the general index of water quality exceeded the WHO index. The water storage margin increased significantly by 14% as a result of the entry of the production of the Umm Al Houl power plant. The rate of infusion in the network decreased by 3.9% in the third quarter, and the response time for subscriber complaints also improved significantly.
In the third quarter of 2017, KAHRAMAA inaugurated the new Hamad Al Kabir Street power station and parking lot, which consists of a 66/11 kV power station and 6 parking floors for 270 cars at a total cost of QR 155 million, as one of the solutions offered by KAHRAMAA in high density and high traffic density areas, and contributing to helping resolve the parking problem in the area.
Meanwhile, the production of the Umm Al Houl power plant reached 60 million gallons per day,. This resulted in a 15% increase in water production capacity, a qualitative addition to the level of Qatar's water security, which enhances KAHRAMAA's ability to meet its commitments towards providing sustainable and high quality service.
The treated wastewater network has been connected to 6 central cooling stations as an alternative to potable water, which will contribute to provide about 4.7 million cubic meters of potable water at the value of nearly QR 38 million, bringing the total number of wastewater treatment plants at the end of 2017 to 13.
The total desalinated water production is expected to reach 56.88 million cubic meters by 2022, equivalent to QR 452 million.
On the other hand, The third quarter of 2017 witnessed a reduction of 12.6 million units of gas consumption (equivalent to QR 130 million) as a result of the adoption of the operational cost reduction program. The monitoring system for the transmission and distribution networks succeeded in achieving a saving of about QR 45 million.
Meanwhile, indicators showed high health, safety and environmental performance during the third quarter, with 91 million hours injury free in the major strategic reservoirs project to secure. In the same period, KAHRAMAA organized a number of health campaigns for the employees to ensure a safe and healthy working environment.
President of KAHARAMAA Eng. Essa bin Hilal Al Kuwari, who presided over the meeting in the presence of directors and heads of departments, praised the achievements and the great progress in the projects achieved by the Corporation during the third quarter of 2017, especially under the current circumstances, through innovative strategies and mechanisms.
He also praised the efforts of all KAHRAMAA employees who contributed to this progress in various fields.
Al Kuwari stressed KAHRAMAA's keenness on ensuring its commitments to providing electricity and water to the country with high efficiency. (QNA)
