TNB, Indonesia's PLN to Build Power Plant In Kalimantan
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 16 (Bernama) -- Tenaga Nasional Bhd (TNB), Malaysia's largest electricity utility and Indonesia's state-owned utility company, PT PLN (Persero) (PLN), will jointly develop a 2x200 megawatt coal-fired power plant in Kalimantan, Indonesia.
In a statement Wednesday, TNB said under the memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed between TNB and PLN on Wednesday, the proposed power plant would supply and export electricity to east Malaysian state Sabah, among other things.
TNB owns 83 per cent of Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd which provides electricity generation, transmission and distribution services in Sabah, while the Sabah state government owns 17 per cent.
The MoU is valid for two years, during which both parties will explore and study the best business models, associated risks and financing options related to the project.
TNB said the project was in line with its global expansion plans to secure new overseas generation capacity and efforts to meet the rising demand for electricity in Sabah.
