tonnes of carbon-dioxide equivalent emissions
BANGKOK, Nov 19 (TNA) -- The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), Thailand’s leading state-owned power utility under the Ministry of Energy, has pledged that its plan to further develop electricity plants in Thailand would neither contradict its policy nor its goal to reduce greenhouse gas problem in the country, said EGAT Deputy Governor Kodshayut Boriboonchatuporn.
Speaking after attending a five-day 23rd United Nations Climate Conference (COP 23), concluded Friday in Bonn, Germany, Mr Kodshayut said greenhouse gas issue is a world problem and Thailand realises it so that it has joined the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change in 1994.
EGAT is determined to reduce the problem through several means such as producing alternative electricity, improving power plants efficiency and producing clean technology power plants, he said.
The agency was able to reduce greenhouse gas by as much as 3.8 million tonnes of carbon-dioxide equivalent emissions in 2015, said Mr Kodshayut.
Thailand has already planned to reduce greenhouse problem in line with the Nationality Determined Contribution and is confident that the plan would not contradict EGAT’s policy or goal to reduce the problem in the country, he added. (TNA)
